The African Swine Fever (ASF) epidemic has severely impacted not only Vietnam but also the Philippines.
Before 2020, the Philippines had over 13 million pigs, but due to ASF, the number dropped to around 9 million in 2021, with the recovery of the herd proving difficult in the post-epidemic period.
Despite the seriousness of the outbreak, the Philippines currently has no domestic enterprise or laboratory investing in ASF vaccine research or production, making the demand for such vaccines more urgent than ever.
Vietnam’s successful development, testing, and commercialization of the ASF vaccine marks not only a milestone achievement for the country but also provides hope and attracts significant interest from the Philippine government, livestock authorities, and pig farming enterprises.

Dabaco Group is one of Vietnam’s leading enterprises pioneering the research and successful production of a commercial ASF vaccine.
Its Dacovet Vaccine Factory, equipped to meet FMP-WHO certification standards, symbolizes technological advancement and national pride. Dabaco aims not only to supply vaccines domestically but also to export to international markets, including the Philippines — contributing to global disease prevention and enhancing Vietnam’s reputation in biotechnology and animal health.
To promote vaccine export and collaboration, Dabaco requested assistance from the Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines to connect with Philippine partners and invite them to the inauguration of the Dacovet Vaccine Plant and the official launch of the Dacovac ASF-2 vaccine.
Vietnam Trade Office Facilitates Business Delegation from the Philippines
On this basis, the Trade Office organized a delegation of 14 representatives from the Philippine Department of Agriculture and leading companies interested in vaccine, livestock, and agricultural cooperation with Dabaco.
The delegation was led by Dr. Constante J. Palabrica, DVM, Undersecretary for Livestock and Poultry.
Participating companies included EDL Group, East Asia Veterinary Inc., EDL Digital Technologies Inc., Jaro Development Corp., Hi Villi Nutrition, Ace Global Technologies Inc., Universal Robina Corp., and others.
The delegation visited Vietnam to attend Dabaco’s inauguration ceremony and discuss potential collaboration opportunities.
Philippine Delegates Commend Vietnam’s Vaccine Achievements
Speaking at the event, Dr. Constante J. Palabrica highlighted the devastating impact of ASF on the global pig industry:
“ASF spreads rapidly and is extremely difficult to control, leading to massive economic losses. Vietnam’s success in developing an effective vaccine gives us valuable insight and hope for the Philippines. We look forward to learning from Vietnam’s experience to restore and strengthen our swine industry.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Eulalio D. Lorenzo, Chairman and CEO of EDL Group, stated:
“From the bottom of my heart, I extend my warmest congratulations to Dabaco Group for successfully commercializing the Dacovac ASF-2 vaccine and inaugurating its vaccine production plant in Bac Ninh. This milestone represents a breakthrough in ASF prevention and control, setting new standards for animal health and food safety worldwide.”
Dr. Lorenzo also expressed his gratitude to the Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines for its dedication and effective coordination in connecting EDL Group with Dabaco and fostering bilateral cooperation.
Future Cooperation Prospects
In the coming months, the Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines will continue to support the parties in negotiating and conducting trial imports of the Dacovac ASF-2 vaccine in the Philippines.
If successful, Dabaco’s ASF vaccine, together with the product developed by AVAC Company, will officially enter and potentially dominate the Philippine vaccine market, further strengthening Vietnam’s role as a regional leader in animal vaccine innovation.
