2024: Cambodia’s Rice Industry Reaches an Impressive Milestone with Nearly USD 2 Billion in Revenue

In a major boost for both the economy and food security, Cambodia’s rice sector generated nearly USD 2 billion in revenue in 2024.

This milestone was celebrated during the 10th anniversary of the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) on June 16, 2025, attended by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, along with numerous stakeholders from across the industry.

Over the past decade, Cambodia’s rice industry has successfully balanced two vital objectives — ensuring food security and expanding commercial markets. In 2024 alone, the country exported over 651,000 tons of milled rice and 5.1 million tons of paddy, generating a total revenue of approximately USD 1.987 billion.

Notably, the industry has attracted significant investment, with the number of rice mills increasing dramatically from fewer than 10 to more than 80, all equipped with modern, advanced technologies. This transformation has positioned Cambodia as an important player in the global rice market.

Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Sun Chanthol acknowledged the achievements of the CRF, attributing them to the government’s effective policies and strong inter-ministerial coordination. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Cambodia’s role in the international rice export market, particularly with the upcoming Funan Techo Canal project, which is expected to improve logistics and enhance the rice supply chain.

As of 2024, agriculture remains a key pillar of Cambodia’s economy, contributing around 16.7% to the national GDP, with the sector’s value-added output projected to increase to USD 7.82 billion in the coming years.

The outstanding growth of the rice industry not only highlights Cambodia’s immense agricultural potential but also reaffirms the nation’s commitment to food security and economic development.
