Recently, Geru Star Sports JSC has made a major shift in its production technology — moving from traditional hand-stitched footballs to modern bonded footballs, a hybrid method combining molded and thermally bonded technologywidely used by top global brands.
This innovation has been highly praised by consumers for its durability, elasticity, and excellent performance on grass fields, marking a significant breakthrough for the company in sports ball manufacturing.
From Market Reality to Strategic Innovation
According to General Director Tran Van Hanh, the company faced many challenges amid the global economic slowdown, requiring continuous innovation to cut production costs, boost efficiency, and better meet customer needs.
“For decades, football players—especially in Vietnam—have used hand-stitched balls. While traditional stitching creates quality products, it is time-consuming and inefficient. Leading global brands have already adopted advanced molded and bonded ball technologies for better performance,” he said.
Drawing from this insight, Geru Star Sports spent years researching how to integrate these two technologies into its production process. The company successfully developed a bonded football meeting FIFA standards, using similar manufacturing principles to those of Nike and Adidas, but at only 30% of the production cost of hand-stitched balls.
For comparison:
-
Hand-stitched ball: market price ~ VND 750,000/unit
-
Geru bonded ball: retail price ~ VND 300,000/unit
With the new technology, worker productivity increased tenfold. Previously, one worker could stitch only one ball per day; now, with bonding technology, a single worker can produce 20–25 balls daily.
Certified Quality – Expanding Market Presence
Geru Sport footballs are made from high-quality synthetic rubber with excellent elasticity, softness, and controlled bounce. The product meets ISO 9001:2008 standards, is certified by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), and is widely used in professional and amateur tournaments nationwide.
By replacing manual stitching with advanced bonding technology, Geru Star Sports has enabled domestic players to enjoy world-class products at competitive prices. The company also aims for its footballs to be used as official match balls in major Vietnamese tournaments such as the V-League, National Cup, Super Cup, and Ho Chi Minh City International Football Cup.
The new Geru Sport footballs have already appeared in professional and amateur leagues across Vietnam, demonstrating the company’s technological progress and growing reputation in the market.
Toward Professional Standards
With outstanding durability, consistency, and performance, Geru Sport’s bonded footballs are poised to become a key factor in enhancing the excitement and quality of matches in both domestic and international tournaments.
