An Giang and Kien Giang Cooperate to Develop 50,000 Hectares of Standardized Rice Production Areas

On the morning of February 8, in An Giang Province, Tân Long Group JSC signed a cooperation agreement with the People’s Committees of An Giang and Kiên Giang Provinces to jointly develop standardized rice production zones and value chain linkages across the two provinces.

Building Sustainable Rice Material Zones

Under the agreement, Tân Long Group will collaborate with the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee to establish a sustainable rice material area, while also developing and strengthening agricultural cooperatives (HTX) and cooperative groups (THT) to promote large-scale organized production.

Tân Long Group will link with and purchase rice from cooperatives and farmer groups in An Giang, expanding the cultivation area over the years:

  • 2022: 10,000 ha

  • 2023: 15,000 ha

  • 2024: 20,000 ha

  • 2025: 30,000 ha

In addition to directly linked areas, the group will stably purchase around 100,000 tons of rice per crop from local farmers and help establish 50 cooperatives and 200 cooperative groups near its rice processing facilities (in Tri Tôn, Tịnh Biên, Châu Phú, Châu Thành, and Thoại Sơn districts) to form a sustainable rice value chain.

Expanding Collaboration in Kiên Giang

In Kiên Giang Province, Tân Long Group will partner with local cooperatives and farmer groups to build production and consumption linkages on:

  • 10,000 ha in 2022 with an expected yield of 70,000 tons,

  • increasing to 30,000 ha in 2025 with an estimated yield of 150,000 tons.

Beyond linked areas, Tân Long will also coordinate with cooperatives and groups to purchase rice directly from farmers in Kiên Giang.

The Kiên Giang Provincial authorities pledged to facilitate production planning, coordinate awareness campaigns, and support the development of cooperatives within Tân Long’s material zones. They also committed to enhancing agricultural extension services, applying advanced technology, and building demonstration fields in areas where Tân Long operates.

Creating Value Through Modern and Sustainable Production

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Trương Sỹ Bá, Chairman of Tân Long Group, emphasized that the plan to build standardized rice production zones and value chain linkages following the new cooperative model would help farmers secure stable markets by producing under enterprise-driven contracts.

This approach reduces input costs, enables the application of synchronized technologies, and creates “smart rice fields” that yield high-quality rice processed through modern post-harvest systems.

“These are essential conditions for producing clean, traceable, high-value rice products, ultimately increasing farmers’ profits,” Mr. Bá stated.

Tân Long Group will prioritize large-scale cultivation of premium rice varieties such as ST21, ST24, and ST25 (developed by agronomist Hồ Quang Cua) and other high-quality varieties from the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute, following green, organic, and semi-organic farming trends, particularly in rice–shrimp rotation areas, adapted to local conditions.

Government Support and Strategic Vision

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Trần Thanh Nam commended Tân Long Group for investing in agriculture and cooperating with An Giang and Kiên Giang to build new-generation cooperatives and material zones.

He noted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is piloting a 50,000-hectare standardized rice material zone in the two provinces — meeting export quality standards, assigned planting codes, and directly linked to consuming enterprises.

“Investment in material zones, combined with the Ministry’s and local governments’ supportive policies, will encourage enterprises to participate in large-scale, modern agricultural production. This will serve as a new development model for the Mekong Delta and beyond,”
Deputy Minister Nam affirmed.

In summary, the cooperation among Tân Long Group, An Giang, and Kiên Giang represents a strategic shift toward sustainable, high-value rice production — combining enterprise leadership, cooperative strength, and government support to create a modern, export-oriented rice industry for Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.
