
Cambodia and China have signed a new agreement to increase the annual rice export quota for Cambodia to 500,000 tons, up 25% from the previous quota of 400,000 tons.
The move is expected to boost Cambodia’s rice exports in the coming years, as China remains one of Cambodia’s largest rice import markets.
New Bilateral Agreement Strengthens Trade Ties

The latest deal between Cambodia and China reflects strengthening agricultural cooperation and deepening trade relations between the two countries.
The first rice export quota agreement between the two nations was signed in August 2014, allowing 100,000 tons per year. Since then, the quota has steadily increased, demonstrating China’s growing confidence in the quality and reliability of Cambodian rice.
Strong Export Performance in 2024
According to the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), the country exported approximately 650,000 tons of rice in 2024, earning nearly USD 480 million in revenue.
A total of 55 companies participated in rice exports to 67 global markets, with China continuing to be a key destination, importing roughly 140,000 tons of milled rice from Cambodia in 2024.
Premium Cambodian Rice Gains International Recognition
Cambodia’s renowned fragrant rice variety, Sen Kra Ob, was recently awarded “Best Rice” at the China-ASEAN Quality and Flavor Assessment Awards for premium Indica rice varieties.
This recognition highlights the growing reputation of Cambodian rice in global markets for its aroma, texture, and quality.
Targeting 1 Million Tons of Rice Exports by 2025
The Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) has set an ambitious goal to export 1 million tons of milled rice in 2025.
