Construction Begins on $25 Million Rubber Processing Plant in Liberia

A US$25 million rubber processing plant has officially broken ground in Cita, Margibi County, Liberia. The project is led by Upjit Singh Sachdeva, an Indian businessman and philanthropist based in Liberia.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place six months after the Government of Liberia and Jeety Rubber LLCsigned a concession agreement in December 2021. Under the agreement, Jeety Rubber is responsible for the construction, development, and management of the new rubber processing facility in Cita.

Largest Rubber Factory in Liberia

According to local media reports, the plant will be built on a 13-hectare site, with the main factory covering approximately 132,000 cubic meters, making it the largest rubber processing facility in Liberia.

Once operational, the plant is expected to process around 25,000 tons of natural rubber annually and produce a range of rubber-based products, including:

  • Tires

  • Gloves

  • Rain boots

  • Rubber hoses and components

This project marks a major step forward in the country’s efforts to boost domestic value-added production and reduce dependency on raw rubber exports.

Empowering Local Farmers and Expanding the Rubber Sector

Currently, Farmers Hope Company, another Liberian rubber enterprise, is using Jeety’s land to purchase rubber from local farmers for export purposes.

Once the Jeety Rubber factory is completed, it will serve as a strategic hub for processing locally sourced rubber, creating jobs, and enhancing Liberia’s rubber value chain.

The investment also reflects growing India–Liberia trade cooperation, with Indian entrepreneurs playing a key role in the industrialization of West Africa’s rubber sector.
