Dong Nai: Business Owner Urgently Arrested for Stealing 43 Tons of Coffee and Cashews

(February 21) – The total amount of coffee and cashew nuts stolen by Thà and her accomplices from Intimex Xuan Loc Joint Stock Company reached 43 tons, worth about VND 3 billion (≈USD 120,000).

On February 20, the Dong Nai Provincial Police Investigation Department prosecuted the case, pressed charges, and ordered four months’ temporary detention for eight suspects, all residents of Xuan Dinh Commune, Xuan Loc District (Dong Nai Province). They include: Nguyen Thi Thà (54), owner of Trung Thanh private enterprise; Nguyen Dinh Tuong (41); Kieu Minh Hung (49); Nguyen Minh Tri (34); Nguyen Cong Doan (44); Nguyen Tien Luc (35); Phan Duy Linh (41); and Nguyen Minh Tam (36), on charges of property theft.

Late in 2013, Nguyen Thi Thà conspired with her younger brother Nguyen Dinh Tuong to recruit people to break into the warehouse of Intimex Xuan Loc JSC (headquartered in Xuan Loc District) to steal agricultural products. Tuong then planned with Hung, Tri, Doan, Luc and Linh to break into the warehouse and steal coffee and cashew nuts, using a truck driven by Nguyen Minh Tam to transport over 16.3 tons of coffee to Cuong Ly Trading Service Import-Export Co., Ltd. (based in Xuan Truong Commune, Xuan Loc District).

Thà then instructed Tuong and the others to continue stealing sacks of cashew nuts from Intimex Xuan Loc, hiding them in her own warehouse in Binh Hoa Hamlet, Xuan Phu Commune, before selling them. Altogether, Thà and her accomplices stole 43 tons of coffee and cashews, with an estimated value of about VND 3 billion.
