Dong Nai: Nearly 1,300 Hectares of Coffee Affected by Pests and Diseases

The districts with the most severe coffee pest and disease infestations are Cẩm Mỹ, Định Quán, and Trảng Bom.

According to the Dong Nai Plant Protection Sub-Department, nearly 1,300 hectares of coffee across the province are currently affected by pests and diseases such as branch dieback, pink fungus, and coffee leaf rust—an increase of almost 100 hectares compared with early August 2012. Most of the affected coffee plants are in the fruit-bearing stage.

Plant protection experts recommend that farmers apply fertilizers in a balanced and sufficient manner to help the coffee trees grow well and boost their resistance to pests and diseases. In addition, farmers should regularly inspect their fields and, when they detect plants heavily infected, spray appropriate specialized treatments promptly.

If these diseases are not controlled in time, coffee yield and quality could be significantly reduced.
