Import–Export Value Through Mong Cai Border Gate Rises 45% in Q1-2025

The Mong Cai International Border Gate Management Board (Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam) reported that in the first quarter of 2025, total import–export turnover through the Mong Cai border gate exceeded USD 1.312 billion, marking a 45% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Of this, export value reached USD 754.42 million, while import value stood at USD 557.69 million, according to Vietnam News Agency (TTXVN).


Significant Growth in Cargo Volume

In Q1-2025, the total volume of goods traded through the Mong Cai border gate hit 592,120 tons, up 57% year-on-year.

At the Bac Luan II Bridge checkpoint, 28,902 vehicles—averaging 332 per day—transported 363,746 tons of goods, representing an impressive 172% increase compared to Q1-2024. This translates to a daily average of 4,181 tons of goods moving through the gate.

Meanwhile, at the Km 3+4 Hai Yen opening, 7,545 vehicles carried 179,220 tons of goods, an 111% increase year-on-year.


Key Export and Import Commodities

Vietnam’s major export items through the border included fruits, cassava starch, frozen seafood, and dried agricultural products, while imports mainly consisted of consumer goods, textiles, and miscellaneous commodities.

A total of 814 enterprises completed customs procedures in Q1-2025—254 more than the same period last year—with 213 companies filing for the first time.

Revenue from import–export activities at the Mong Cai International Border Gate reached VND 604.188 billion, a 43.34% increase compared to Q1-2024.


Nearly 1.77 Million Border Crossings in Q1

In addition to trade activity, nearly 1.77 million people completed immigration procedures through the Mong Cai International Border Gate during the first quarter, including approximately 879,000 inbound travelers.


Smart Border Gate Cooperation with Dongxing (China)

In mid-March 2025, authorities from Mong Cai (Vietnam) and Dongxing (China) reached an agreement to jointly develop a smart border gate complex. The cooperation includes:

  • Construction of the Mong Cai – Dongxing Smart Border Gate;

  • Collaboration on industrial development in Hai Yen Industrial Park and Van Ninh International Port;

  • Establishment of a cross-border e-commerce industrial zone;

  • Transportation connectivity projects such as the Mong Cai – Dongxing International Railway and the Bac Luan III Bridge.

These initiatives are expected to further enhance trade efficiency, logistics connectivity, and digital integrationbetween the two border cities.
