To strengthen Vietnam–Tunisia trade cooperation, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria (concurrently in charge of Tunisia), in coordination with the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), plans to host an online B2B networking conference connecting companies from both countries on Thursday afternoon, April 24, 2025.
Although Tunisia is a relatively small country (area 163,610 km², population ~12.5 million), it is one of the most dynamic and competitive economies in the Africa–Arab region, with deep international integration and a strategic location only ~140 km from Europe. Tunisia participates in eight free trade agreements (FTAs), making it a gateway to African and Arab markets, especially North Africa.
Each year, Tunisia imports around 30,000 tons of green coffee (mainly robusta) and 30,000 tons of rice. Basic commodities such as rice, sugar, coffee, and green tea are monopolized by the Tunisian Trade Office and procured via international tenders.
According to ITC statistics, Vietnam–Tunisia trade reached about USD 100 million in 2024, up 11% from 2023. Vietnam’s major exports to Tunisia include footwear and inputs, mobile phones, printed circuits and printers, coffee, pepper, cashew kernels, desiccated coconut, seafood, electrical and electronic products, wires and cables, transformers, garments, fabrics and yarns, plastic raw materials, carboxylic acids, etc. Imports from Tunisia include seafood, medical/surgical/dental equipment, animal feed and inputs, dates and figs, cotton, plastic raw materials, leather, and textiles, among others.
