The Vietnam Trade Office in India, in collaboration with relevant partners, will organize a Webinar titled “Vietnam–India Cooperation in the Textile and Garment Industry” on May 23, 2025.

In 2025, Vietnam’s textile and garment industry is facing multiple challenges — including trade fluctuations, tariff policy changes, geopolitical tensions, and global inflation. At the same time, the global supply chain is undergoing a significant restructuring process, requiring textile-exporting countries like Vietnam to adapt proactively and diversify their sourcing base to ensure sustainable growth.
India, with its long-established textile industry, stands out as a major global supplier of raw materials such as cotton, cotton yarn, blended yarns, and synthetic fibers. Meanwhile, Vietnam currently depends on China for about 65% of its textile inputs. Expanding raw material imports from India would not only help diversify Vietnam’s supply chain, but also reduce production costs through tariff advantages under the ASEAN–India Free Trade Agreement (AIFTA).
Moreover, new reciprocal tax policies from the United States targeting major exporting countries (including Vietnam and India) are adding pressure on production and competitiveness. Strengthening cooperation between the two nations will therefore help both sides maintain and expand market share in traditional markets while jointly tapping into emerging markets such as the EU, Japan, and South Korea.
