Lam Dong: 30 Hectares of Coffee in Di Linh Submerged by Hydropower Reservoir

On the afternoon of October 25, 2011, Mr. K’Wệ, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Đinh Trang Thượng Commune in Di Linh District, Lam Dong Province, reported that an estimated over 30 hectares of coffee fields, crops, and local houses have been submerged by the Đồng Nai 3 hydropower reservoir.

This newly flooded area lies outside the zone originally designated to be affected by the project. “So far, nearly 20 households—about 100 people—have once again been left homeless, as their newly built houses have been swallowed by the rising water,” Mr. K’Wệ stated.

He added that over 300 households in Đinh Trang Thượng Commune have been affected by the Đồng Nai 3 hydropower project. Although the power plant has already gone into operation, most residents have yet to receive full compensation, land clearance settlements, or assistance for resettlement and new farming sites.
