A US$25 million rubber processing plant has officially broken ground in Cita, Margibi County, Liberia. The project is led by Upjit Singh Sachdeva, an Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist active in Liberia.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place six months after the Government of Liberia and Jeety Rubber LLC signed a concession agreement in December 2021. Under this agreement, Jeety Rubber will be responsible for building, developing, and managing the new rubber processing facility in Cita.
Liberia’s Largest Rubber Processing Facility
According to local media, the new factory will sit on a 13-hectare site and span a construction area of 132,000 cubic meters, making it the largest rubber processing plant in Liberia.
Once operational, the plant will have the capacity to process around 25,000 tons of natural rubber per year and manufacture finished products such as tires, gloves, rain boots, and rubber hoses — creating new value-added opportunities for Liberia’s rubber industry.
Boosting Local Agriculture and Exports
Currently, Farmers Hope Company, another rubber enterprise in Liberia, operates on land owned by Mr. Jeety to purchase rubber from local farmers for export purposes.
The establishment of the Jeety Rubber plant is expected to stimulate local rubber production, create hundreds of jobs, and reduce the country’s dependence on raw rubber exports by increasing domestic processing and finished goods production.
