According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in 2024, Vietnam exported 38.44 thousand tons of rubber to Malaysia, worth USD 56.16 million — an impressive increase of 433.5% in volume and 515.7% in valuecompared to 2023.
This marks the highest rubber export volume to Malaysia in the past six years, since 2019. As a result, Malaysia has become Vietnam’s fourth largest rubber export market in 2024.
Vietnam’s Rubber Exports to Malaysia by Product Type
Among the various rubber types exported, Latex rubber accounted for 76.5% of total exports to Malaysia, reaching 29,408 tons and worth USD 42.26 million. Notably, Malaysia did not import Latex rubber from Vietnam in 2023, marking a significant shift in demand.
Other notable product movements include:
-
SVR 3L: ↑ 1.2%
-
Reclaimed rubber: ↑ 28.9%
-
SVR CV 60: ↑ 12.3%
-
Skim block: ↑ 1,046% (surge)
-
Synthetic rubber: ↑ 1,270% (sharp increase)
-
RSS3: ↑ 228.8%
However, exports of SVR 10 and SVR 5 declined by 28.3% and 50.4%, respectively.
Malaysia’s Growing Demand for Imported Rubber
In recent years, Malaysia has increasingly shifted its industrial focus from raw rubber production to rubber-based manufacturing, especially in medical gloves and automotive tires.
In addition to gloves and tires, the Malaysian rubber industry also produces:
-
Footwear
-
Latex products
-
Industrial rubber components
-
General rubber goods
Each product category requires specific types and quality grades of rubber, driving higher import demand from supplier countries, including Vietnam.
Statistics show that Malaysia’s rubber imports have consistently increased over the past five years, from 1 million tons in 2020 to 1.22 million tons in 2023 — a trend expected to continue as the country expands its manufacturing capacity.
Outlook for 2025
Vietnam’s strong export performance to Malaysia highlights its growing role in regional rubber supply chains, particularly in high-quality Latex and synthetic rubber segments.
With Malaysia’s industrial demand expected to rise further in 2025, Vietnamese exporters have an opportunity to deepen trade cooperation and diversify product portfolios to meet the evolving needs of Malaysia’s manufacturing sector.
