Distinctive Quality and Flavor
Vinh Tuong pomelos, cultivated in Vinh Tuong District, Vinh Phuc Province, are known for their sweet, refreshing taste, distinct aroma, thin rind, and juicy flesh. Recognizing the pomelo as a key local crop, the People’s Committee of Vinh Tuong District has implemented numerous policies and initiatives in recent years to encourage expansion, particularly in fertile areas along the Red River’s alluvial plains.
Growing Standards and Export Readiness
According to Mr. Phung Van Tan, Chairman of the Vinh Tuong Pomelo Growers Association, the district currently has 110 members cultivating over 40 hectares of pomelos, including 12 hectares certified under VietGAP standards and registered with export planting area codes.
With strong support from local authorities and agricultural agencies, farmers have improved cultivation techniques, ensuring the fruit meets strict European quality and safety requirements.
Expanding Market Access and Export Value
To further expand export potential and enhance product value, export enterprises have proposed that agricultural departments and local governments continue to:
-
Support quality improvement for pomelos;
-
Issue additional planting area codes;
-
Strengthen cultivation supervision to ensure consistent quality, better flavor, and more attractive appearance for export fruit.
The success of the Vinh Tuong pomelo in the European market not only confirms its high quality and brand value but also represents a promising direction for Vietnam’s fruit exports amid growing global demand for clean, traceable produce.
