A recent article published in Current Research in Food Science has confirmed that coffee has the ability to help prevent obesity.
Obesity can significantly increase the risk of serious health complications, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and atherosclerosis.
In this new review, scientists from Yunnan University in China conducted a comprehensive analysis of 183 studies investigating the effects of coffee, tea, and cocoa on obesity management.
Fat cells play a crucial role in the development of obesity. There are two types of fat: white fat and brown fat. White fat is associated with the development of obesity, while brown fat helps prevent it.
Therefore, effective strategies for obesity management often focus on inhibiting white fat formation and promoting brown fat development, according to News Medical.
The researchers found that bioactive compounds in coffee, tea, and cocoa can inhibit the formation of white fat and promote the development of brown fat, helping to prevent obesity.
Specifically for coffee, the key anti-obesity compounds found in green and roasted coffee include caffeine, chlorogenic acid (CGA), trigonelline, diterpenoids, cafestol, and kahweol.
The findings show that these compounds can boost metabolic rate, stimulate fat breakdown, and lead to weight loss. They also enhance fat oxidation during exercise.
Additionally, these compounds can help prevent fatty liver disease and obesity by reducing fat accumulation, promoting brown fat formation, and inhibiting the development of white fat, according to News Medical.
