EXPORT CEREMONY
FIRST SHIPMENT OF “VIETNAM LOW-EMISSION GREEN RICE” TO JAPAN
On June 5, 2025, at Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company (Can Tho City), the Vietnam Rice Industry Association (VIETRISA), in collaboration with Trung An Company, held the Export Ceremony for the first shipment of “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice” to Japan.
This event marks the entry of rice products under the project “Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Linked to Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030” (the “One-Million-Hectare Project”) into the export market under the trademark “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice.”
The “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice” Trademark
To promptly support the One-Million-Hectare Project, with encouragement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, VIETRISA developed the trademark “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice,” with coordination and technical support from agencies of the Ministry and international organizations including the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (under the Transforming Rice Value Chains Project – TRVC), and the World Bank (WB).
On April 16, 2025, VIETRISA officially completed and promulgated the Regulation on the Use of the “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice” Trademark.
The trademark is granted by VIETRISA to rice products produced in accordance with the technical protocols of the One-Million-Hectare Project. These products must be certified by local authorities (commune-level agricultural authorities) or relevant international organizations to ensure traceability (including production area, rice variety, and season) and compliance with the high-quality, low-emission rice production standards defined under the Project.
Following the issuance of the Trademark Regulation, and with support from the TRVC Project, VIETRISA has issued Certificates of Trademark Use for “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice” to seven enterprises, with a total of 19,200 tons of certified rice. Among them, Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, in partnership with Murase Group (Japan), became the first enterprise to export a shipment bearing this trademark to Japan.
The export ceremony was held at Trung An’s factory, where guests witnessed the ribbon-cutting and the dispatch of the trucks carrying the “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice” shipment to the port for export. Attendees also toured the company’s rice processing facilities, observing internationally certified processes from raw material intake to final export packaging.
Vietnam – Pioneer in Bringing Low-Emission Rice to Market
The launch of tens of thousands of tons of rice bearing the “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice” trademark—including the first shipment to Japan—demonstrates that Vietnam is the first country in the world to commercialize and export low-emission rice.
The One-Million-Hectare Project successfully implemented multiple pilot models in 2024 and entered its expansion phase in 2025. As high-quality, low-emission rice fields continue to spread, today’s debut of the “Vietnam Low-Emission Green Rice” brand marks the beginning of a broader journey—toward a national certification mark and Vietnam Low-Carbon Rice brand, in line with the Project’s goals of sustainability, prosperity, and elevating Vietnam’s global rice image and reputation.
Distinguished Guests
Although unable to attend in person due to official duties, National Assembly Vice Chairman and former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Lê Minh Hoan sent a congratulatory letter, writing:
“May the journey of ‘Vietnam Green Rice’ continue to spread—deep into every paddy field, wide across every market, and lasting in the hearts of all who cherish our agriculture and the grain that carries the sweat and love of Mekong Delta farmers.”
Attending the event were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Trần Thanh Nam, Chairman of IRRI and former Minister Cao Đức Phát, IRRI Representative in Vietnam Robert Cauwell, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee Nguyễn Ngọc Hè, and representatives from international organizations including the World Bank (WB), IRRI, SNV Netherlands, as well as domestic agricultural agencies, enterprises, cooperatives, and media outlets.
