Facing complex fluctuations in both domestic and international markets, VRG Quang Tri MDF Joint Stock Companyhas demonstrated a proactive and decisive approach in organizing production and business operations while shaping a long-term strategy focused on product quality enhancement, competitiveness, and export market expansion.
Market Challenges and Intensifying Competition
In the first quarter of 2025, VRG Quang Tri MDF reported MDF wood consumption of 43,897 m³, equivalent to 22.5% of its annual plan, with total business revenue reaching VND 227.6 billion, of which VND 200.1 billion came from the domestic market. However, export performance achieved only about 11% of the yearly target, indicating strong external market pressure.
The key challenges stem from increasing MDF imports from Thailand and China, estimated at 60,000–70,000 m³ in Q1. Meanwhile, the expansion of domestic competitors such as Dongwha Thai Nguyen, MDF Mekong, and Kim Tin’s third plant (scheduled to begin operations in June 2025) further heightens competition. Additionally, new U.S. and European trade policies have slowed demand in those regions.
Product Innovation and Market-Oriented Development
In response, the company has implemented flexible, region-specific strategies:
-
In the Northern market, it is developing MDF HMR SP and HDF EPA TSCA product lines to replace Thai imports, targeting kitchen cabinet and premium furniture manufacturers.
-
In the Southern market, the focus is on upgrading production lines to meet EPA TSCA standards, catering to clients exporting to the U.S. and EU.
By coordinating production between its two plants, VRG Quang Tri MDF maximizes local raw-material advantages, reduces production costs, and maintains consistent product quality while reacting swiftly to market shifts.
The company emphasizes that sustainable growth begins with strong foundations:
-
Human resources: Continuous technical and safety training, machine operation skill development, and fire prevention awareness.
-
Machinery: Scheduled maintenance, proactive spare-part management, and strict quality control at every stage.
-
Pricing policy: Region-based flexible pricing, transportation cost support, and quantity-based discounts.
-
Distribution system: Expansion of dealer networks in key markets and enhanced marketing support.
Elevating Quality Standards and Expanding Domestic Potential
Quality and design excellence remain top priorities. To strengthen its market position, VRG Quang Tri MDF has been improving products to meet international technical standards such as EPA TSCA and CARB-P2, optimizing surface design and color options to align with modern interior trends. The company also focuses on value-added processing and usability enhancement.
With Vietnam’s domestic MDF production capacity approaching 2 million m³/year, and increasing FDI inflows into the furniture industry, the company sees significant growth potential in both domestic and export markets.
This is the right time to assert the “Made in Vietnam” MDF brand, advancing the reputation of Vietnamese wood products across the global value chain.
