Rubber Cultivation Technical Process 2020

The Rubber Cultivation Technical Process 2020 is an official guideline detailing all technical aspects of rubber production — including soil preparation, planting materials, care and maintenance, latex tapping, pest and disease management, and sustainable harvesting.

Introduction to the Rubber Cultivation Technical Process

In the past, the technical guidelines for rubber cultivation were developed and implemented by the General Department of Rubber, Vietnam Rubber Corporation, and later the Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) in 1990, 1997, 2004, and 2012.

With advances in agricultural science and technology, and the expansion of rubber cultivation beyond traditional regions, these processes required significant updates.
As a result, the Rubber Cultivation Technical Process 2020 was officially issued at the end of 2020.

The new process was compiled and revised by experts and specialists from the Vietnam Rubber Research Instituteand various professional departments under VRG, with contributions from managers, field technicians, and NGOs involved in sustainable rubber production.

This document is an essential technical reference to help growers apply effective and sustainable cultivation practicesfor rubber trees.

Highlights of the 2020 Technical Process

The 2020 version introduces many new technical standards and improvements:

  • Soil Classification and Planting Density:
Detailed soil and regional classifications are established. Recommended planting density is 500–800 trees per hectare, including intercropping layouts (see page 30).

  • New Standards for Rubber Seedlings:
Stricter requirements for true-to-type clones in replanting and new plantation development. (See “Rubber Variety Selection Guidelines.”)

  • Care and Growth Monitoring:
Specific trunk girth development standards are outlined for each region and year of growth.

  • Intercropping and Crop Rotation:
Detailed guidance for intercropping and rotation in rubber plantations (page 66).

  • Fertilization, Tapping Regimes, and Latex Stimulation:
Updated protocols for fertilizer use, tapping schedules, and stimulation procedures (page 87).

  • Pest and Disease Management:
Includes photo-based diagnostic tools and a dedicated online portal:

  • Rubber Wood Harvesting and Processing:
Techniques for sustainable wood extraction and preliminary rubber wood processing.

  • Sustainability Orientation:
Focused on the three key pillars: economic efficiency – environmental protection – social responsibility.
Incorporates advanced science and technology to enhance latex yield, labor productivity, land-use efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

  • Improving Business Performance:
The new process promotes better plantation management and profitability for the Vietnamese rubber industry.
