Sông Hinh: Coffee Harvest Brings Both High Yields and High Prices

Farmers in Sông Hinh district are now harvesting their 2014 coffee crop. With prices at the farm gate around 7,500 VND per kilogram of fresh cherries—double the price at the same time last year—and yields topping 10 tons per hectare, growers are earning strong profits.

According to the district Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sông Hinh has about 1,500 ha of coffee, of which 1,300 ha are currently being harvested, mainly in Ea Bá Coffee Farm and the communes of Ea Trol, Ea Ly, Sông Hinh, and Hai Riêng township.

Vũ Đức Phong, Director of Ea Bá Coffee Company Ltd., said that this year’s coffee yields are estimated at 15 tons of fresh cherries per hectare—the highest level in the past ten years.
