Swedish Ambassador Welcomes Gothenburg Port Delegation: Shaping a New Transshipment Route Between Vietnam and Europe

The Ambassador of Sweden to Vietnam, Mr. Johan Ndisi, recently received a delegation from the Port of Gothenburg—the largest seaport in Northern Europe—on the occasion of the port’s participation in Vietnam International Sourcing Fair (VIS 2025), organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam.
The meeting was attended by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Thuy, Commercial Counselor of Vietnam in Sweden, and representatives from Business Sweden in Vietnam.

Strengthening Maritime Connectivity Between Vietnam and Sweden

During the meeting, the Gothenburg Port delegation reported the outcomes of its working visit to Vietnam, including discussions with major ports, logistics companies, and leading manufacturing and export enterprises.
The delegation expressed its desire for continued support from the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam to deepen cooperation and expand strategic partnerships in the logistics and maritime sectors.

Representatives from Gothenburg Port also introduced the port as Northern Europe’s primary maritime gateway and the largest container port in the region, handling around 70 million tons of cargo and over 20 million containers annually.
As a global logistics hub, the port plays a pivotal role in facilitating trade between Europe and Asia.

Towards a Green and Smart Port Vision

Gothenburg Port is also recognized as a pioneer in sustainable and smart port development, integrating renewable energy systems, digitalized operations, and carbon reduction initiatives.
Its long-term goal is to promote sustainable logistics and support global climate objectives through green shipping corridors and smart port infrastructure.

The port’s leadership expressed a strong interest in enhancing cooperation with Vietnamese ports and logistics enterprises, as well as connecting with major Vietnamese corporations such as VinFast and Vinatex to establish direct sea routes between Vietnam and Sweden.
These efforts align with Gothenburg’s vision of becoming a new transshipment center for Europe, diversifying trade flows and optimizing global supply chains.

A New Phase in Vietnam–Sweden Maritime Cooperation

The meeting was seen as an important step in strengthening logistics, shipping, and trade relations between the two countries.
Both sides shared a commitment to promoting bilateral investment, trade exchange, and sustainable supply chain development, contributing to stronger connectivity between Vietnam and the European market.
