The Vietnam Trade Office in Taipei has compiled the 2024 Taiwan Textile Import and Export Overview, based on reports from the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF).

Fabric remained the top export product, reaching USD 4.78 billion (71% of total textile exports), up 2% year-on-year. Export volume of fabric fell 2%, but the unit price increased 4%. Other categories included yarns (14%), textile products (5%), fibers (5%), and apparel & accessories (5%).

Among export destinations, Vietnam, Mainland China, the United States, Indonesia, and Cambodia ranked as Taiwan’s top five markets, accounting for 61% of total textile exports.

Taiwan’s exports to Vietnam reached USD 1.89 billion, representing 28% of total textile exports and up 9% from 2023 — the highest value among all markets. Fabric exports to Vietnam alone totaled USD 1.58 billion, reaffirming Vietnam’s position as Taiwan’s leading textile trading partner in Southeast Asia.

Textile Imports into Taiwan

In 2024, Taiwan’s textile imports totaled USD 3.65 billion, representing 1% of total imports, down 0.2% from 2023. Import volume reached 494,400 tons (down 1%), with average import prices increasing 1%.

Apparel and fashion accessories were the largest import category, valued at USD 2.21 billion (61%), followed by other textile products (14%), fabrics (11%), yarns (9%), and fibers (5%).

Mainland China remained the largest import source, contributing USD 1.59 billion (44%), followed by Vietnam, the EU, Japan, and the United States. These top five suppliers accounted for 79% of Taiwan’s total textile imports.

Trade Balance and Outlook

Taiwan’s textile trade surplus in 2024 stood at USD 3.08 billion, up 4% from 2023. The textile industry ranked fourthamong Taiwan’s foreign currency-earning sectors — after machinery and electronics, plastics and rubber, and base metals.

Looking ahead to 2025, while global geopolitical uncertainties and U.S. trade policies remain key challenges, declining inflation and interest rate cuts in major economies are expected to stimulate global trade recovery. Rising demand in ASEAN markets and inventory replenishment in the U.S. will continue to support export growth.

Taiwan’s textile industry is projected to maintain stable export momentum in Q1 2025, driven by sustainable production, digital transformation, and reshoring of global supply chains.
