The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has issued a notice to relevant associations and enterprises regarding enhanced supervision of fresh durian imports from Vietnam.
Increased Inspection Measures
Starting from July 22, 2025, to August 21, 2025 (based on import date), TFDA will apply batch-by-batch inspectionfor all shipments of fresh durian (HS code 0810.60.00.00.7) imported from Vietnam. The inspections will focus on residues of heavy metals and pesticides, with no reduction in testing frequency.
According to TFDA, over the past six months, 13 consignments of Vietnamese durian have failed to meet safety standards during port inspections due to issues related to pesticide residues and contamination.
Legal Basis
To safeguard public health and food safety, TFDA has invoked Article 9, Paragraph 1, Item 5 of the Measures for the Inspection of Imported Foods and Related Products, requiring that all shipments undergo full inspection procedures.
If deemed necessary, TFDA may extend the inspection period beyond August 21, 2025. Any extensions or updates will be announced on the official TFDA website, without separate written notice.
Recommendations for Vietnamese Exporters
The Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei has urged Vietnamese exporters of fresh durian to enhance quality control and strictly comply with Taiwan’s import standards. Failure to do so may result in shipment destruction or return, causing losses and potentially damaging the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural exports.
