Vietnam’s Pepper Exports Reach Over 26,000 Tons in April

According to data released by the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in April 2025, the United States remained the largest importer of Vietnamese pepper, with 6,404 tons, marking a 46% increase compared to the previous month.

Overall, Vietnam exported 26,590 tons of pepper of all kinds during April, including:

  • Black pepper: 23,271 tons

  • White pepper: 3,319 tons

The total export value reached USD 184.1 million — up 1.3% in volume but surging 58% in value compared with April 2024.


Export Prices Soar as Global Demand Strengthens

The average export price of pepper in April 2025 rose sharply:

  • Black pepper: USD 6,817/ton

  • White pepper: USD 8,596/ton

By the end of April 2025, Vietnam had exported 74,250 tons of pepper in total, including:

  • Black pepper: 63,124 tons

  • White pepper: 11,126 tons

The cumulative export turnover reached USD 510.6 million, reflecting a 10.6% decrease in volume but an impressive 45% increase in value compared to the same period last year.

Export prices maintained strong upward momentum:

  • Black pepper: USD 6,749/ton, up 96% year-on-year

  • White pepper: USD 8,611/ton, up 73.8% year-on-year


Top Export Markets

  • United States: The largest importer of Vietnamese pepper, purchasing over 16,000 tons in the first four months of 2025.

  • India: Ranked second with nearly 6,000 tons.

The rising demand from these two markets continues to drive global pepper price recovery, supported by tight supplyfrom major producing countries.


Vietnam’s Pepper Imports Hit Record Levels

In contrast, Vietnam imported 5,688 tons of pepper in April 2025, with a total import value of USD 36.7 million.
Compared with March, import volume increased 15.1%, while value rose 27.2%.

This import level is nearly equal to the record high of 5,747 tons set in May 2021.

Major Pepper Suppliers to Vietnam:

  • Brazil: 3,792 tons (up 23.9% month-on-month), accounting for 66.7% of total imports.

  • Cambodia: 1,171 tons (up 127.8% month-on-month).
