Vietnam–Russia Trade Overview in January 2025

The Vietnam Trade Office in Russia has compiled an overview of Vietnam–Russia bilateral trade for January 2025, based on data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Trade Performance Highlights

According to official statistics, the total bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in January 2025 reached USD 375.39 million, marking a 10.4% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

  • Vietnam’s exports to Russia: USD 179.45 million, down 19.3% year-on-year.

  • Vietnam’s imports from Russia: USD 195.94 million, down 0.4%.

  • Trade balance: Vietnam recorded a trade deficit of approximately USD 16.49 million with Russia.

Key Observations

The decline in trade volume reflects short-term market adjustments following high fluctuations in 2024. Despite the temporary contraction, the trade relationship between Vietnam and Russia continues to show potential for recovery and diversification in several sectors, including:

  • Agricultural and seafood products (coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, seafood).

  • Industrial and mechanical goods (machinery, spare parts, chemicals).

  • Energy and raw materials (fertilizers, oil derivatives, metals).

Both countries are expected to strengthen cooperation under the Vietnam–EAEU Free Trade Agreement (EAEU FTA), promoting long-term trade facilitation and tariff reductions.
