
According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), agricultural and forestry production in April 2025mainly focused on cultivating winter–spring crops in the northern provinces, harvesting winter–spring rice and cropsin the southern regions, and sowing summer–autumn rice in the Mekong Delta and nearby areas. At the same time, forest planting continued as planned, timber exploitation was accelerated, livestock farming remained stable, and aquaculture output and prices rose significantly.
Agricultural Production

As of April 20, 2025, Vietnam had planted 2.968 million hectares of winter–spring rice, up 15,700 hectares compared to the same crop season in 2024.

Northern provinces cultivated 1.051 million hectares, down 7,900 hectares due to land recovery for infrastructure and industrial projects, as well as crop conversion to higher-value alternatives.

Southern provinces, benefiting from favorable weather and minimal saltwater intrusion, achieved 1.917 million hectares, up 23,600 hectares year-on-year.
Most of the winter–spring rice area showed good growth thanks to early and careful cultivation practices. As of mid-April, the southern provinces had harvested 1.644 million hectares, equivalent to 85% of the total planted area and 99.7% of the same period in 2024. The Mekong Delta alone completed 1.471 million hectares, representing 97.6% of its planting area and 101.1% compared to the previous year.
For the summer–autumn crop, favorable weather allowed farmers to begin sowing early. By April 20, 2025, the southern provinces had sown 719,900 hectares, up 5.1% year-on-year. The Mekong Delta accounted for 715,900 hectares, also up 5.1%. Provinces showing rapid progress included An Giang (+22.4%), Long An (+7.7%), and Đồng Tháp (+7.5%).
Across the country, farmers are also shifting from low-value crops to high-value alternatives, optimizing both yield and profitability.
Forestry Sector
In the first four months of 2025, the area of newly planted forests was estimated at 77,800 hectares, up 11.3%compared to the same period in 2024.
Meanwhile, timber production reached 5.951 million cubic meters, increasing 12.4% year-on-year.
Fisheries and Aquaculture
During the same period, Vietnam’s total aquaculture output was estimated at 2.787 million tons, up 2.8% from last year.

Export Contribution
In the first four months of 2025, agricultural and forestry exports reached a total value of USD 12.39 billion, accounting for 8.8% of Vietnam’s total export turnover.
Meanwhile, seafood exports contributed USD 3.21 billion, representing 2.3% of the total export value.
