Vietnam’s Coffee Exports Fell 11.92% in 2019

According to preliminary data from Vietnam Customs, the country exported a total of 1.65 million tons of coffee (about 27.55 million bags) in 2019. This represents a decline of 223,702 tons, or 11.92%, compared with 2018, with Robusta coffee accounting for the majority of shipments.

December 2019 Export Surge

In December 2019 alone, Vietnam exported 188,246 tons (3.13 million bags) of coffee:

  • +66.75% compared to November 2019.

  • +23.67% compared to December 2018.

In terms of value, exports in December reached USD 327.58 million, a growth of 66.92% month-on-month and 18.83% year-on-year.

The average export price in December was USD 1,740 per ton, slightly higher (+0.12%) than November 2019.

First Quarter of Coffee Year 2019/20

During the first three months of the 2019/20 coffee year, Vietnam exported 387,952 tons (6.47 million bags) worth USD 681.79 million. This was down 10.58% in volume and 13.47% in value compared with the same period of the 2018/19 crop year.

Full-Year 2019 Performance

  • Total exports: 1.65 million tons (27.55 million bags).

  • Export value: USD 2.85 billion.

  • Decline: 11.92% in volume, 19.28% in value compared with 2018.

  • Key product: Robusta coffee.
