Vietnam’s Coffee Exports Surge Nearly 76% Year-on-Year

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee in the first two months of 2025 reached USD 5,561 per ton, marking a sharp increase of 75.9% compared to the same period in 2024. This surge helped the coffee industry earn over USD 1.7 billion in export revenue.

Strong Growth in Early 2025

Vietnam’s coffee export value in the first two months of 2025 rose 37.2% year-on-year, driven by higher global coffee prices and robust demand.

In February 2025, Vietnam exported 169,800 tons of coffee, valued at USD 964.3 million, up 26.7% in volume and 32.2% in value compared to January 2025.
Compared to February 2024, export volume increased by 6.9%, while export value soared by 82.6%.

The average export price of coffee in the first two months of 2025 reached USD 5,561 per ton, up 75.9% year-on-year — the highest increase in many years.

Export Markets and Supply Dynamics

Export volumes to key markets such as Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and South Korea all increased compared to the same period in 2024.

According to the Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Market Bulletin published by the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), global coffee prices remained at record highs in early March 2025, supported by shrinking inventories and lower output forecasts in Brazil.

Coffee inventories on the ICE exchanges dropped sharply, with Arabica stocks hitting a nine-month low. At the same time, supply from Brazil and Vietnam slowed down — Brazilian farmers were reluctant to sell due to a weaker Real, while in Vietnam, the coffee harvest season was entering its final stage.

Global and Domestic Price Trends

According to the Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (ABIC), world coffee prices are expected to remain high due to four consecutive years of unfavorable weather affecting coffee production in Brazil — the world’s largest producer and exporter, accounting for nearly half of global supply.
The upcoming harvest in July 2025 is forecasted to yield only around 60 million bags (60 kg each) — the lowest in three years.

On March 7, 2025, Robusta coffee futures on the London Exchange for May 2025 and July 2025 increased by 0.9%from February 28, 2025, reaching USD 5,427/ton and USD 5,386/ton, respectively.
Meanwhile, Arabica futures on the New York Exchange for the same delivery months rose 3.6% and 3.5%, to 387.15 US cents/lb and 377.55 US cents/lb.

Domestically, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam followed the global uptrend, increasing sharply in early March 2025.
By March 7, domestic Robusta prices rose VND 1,800–3,000/kg compared to the end of February, ranging between VND 131,000 – 132,000/kg, depending on the region.

Bright Outlook for Vietnam’s Coffee Industry

Vietnam’s coffee sector continues to benefit from favorable global supply-demand dynamics, extending the strong momentum seen in 2024.
Last year was a record-breaking year for Vietnam’s coffee exports, with USD 5.48 billion in export value, despite an 18.8% drop in volume to 1.32 million tons.

Notably, for the first time in history, Vietnam’s coffee prices became the highest in the world, with Robusta surpassing Arabica — an unprecedented milestone.

Given the current market trends, Vietnam’s coffee export outlook for 2025 remains highly positive, supported by high global prices and sustained demand from major importers.
