Vietnam’s Pepper Export Value Rises 68% Year-on-Year in the First Two Months of 2025

According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam exported 14.3 thousand tons of pepper in February 2025, valued at USD 97.2 million — an increase of 10.7% in volume and 11% in value compared with January 2025; and up 7.2% in volume and 79.1% in value from February 2024.

Overall, during the first two months of 2025, Vietnam’s pepper exports reached 27.2 thousand tons, worth USD 184.4 million, representing a 11.6% decline in volume but a 48.5% increase in export value compared to the same period in 2024.

Export Price Surges to USD 6,763 per Ton

In February 2025, the average export price of Vietnamese pepper stood at USD 6,774 per ton, up 0.3% month-on-month and 67.1% year-on-year.
For the two-month period, the average export price reached USD 6,763 per ton, marking a 68% increase over the same period last year.

The significant rise in prices has helped offset the drop in export volume, boosting total export earnings across most major markets.

Mixed Export Performance Across Key Markets

Vietnam’s pepper exports in February 2025 showed divergent trends among key destinations:

  • United States: down 21.5% in volume, but up 40.5% in value;

  • Germany: up 73.6% in volume and 166.6% in value;

  • Other growth markets include South Korea, the UK, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Despite volume fluctuations, export value increased across most destinations, reflecting the strong global price rebound for pepper.

For the January–February 2025 period, exports to some markets decreased compared to 2024 —
notably the U.S. (-32.5%), India (-21.9%), and the Netherlands (-40.4%).
Conversely, shipments to Germany, South Korea, and the UK recorded notable increases.

Domestic Pepper Prices Remain Stable

Province / Region Price (VND/kg)
Gia Lai 158,000
Đồng Nai 157,500
Đắk Lắk 159,000
Đắk Nông 159,000

Market Outlook

Analysts note that tight global supply from major producers, combined with rising import demand from the EU and North America, continues to push up prices.
Vietnam’s pepper industry is expected to maintain a favorable price trend through mid-2025, even as export volumes fluctuate due to weather and logistical factors.
