Vietnam’s Rubber Exports Surpass USD 1 Billion

Vietnam’s rubber export sector continues to demonstrate strong momentum, with export turnover exceeding USD 1 billion in the first five months of 2022, reflecting robust growth in both volume and value.

Export Growth Rebounds in May

According to estimates from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam exported around 110,000 tons of rubber in May 2022, valued at USD 181 million — an increase of 40% in volume and 28% in value compared to April 2022.

Compared with May 2021, export volume rose 33%, while export value increased 26.4%.

The average export price in May reached USD 1,645 per ton, down nearly 9% month-on-month and 5% year-on-year, indicating a temporary adjustment in export prices despite stronger trading volumes.

Over USD 1 Billion in Export Value After 5 Months

Cumulatively, in the first five months of 2022, Vietnam exported approximately 595,000 tons of rubber, worth USD 1.04 billion, up 8% in volume and 12% in value compared to the same period in 2021.

This growth confirms rubber as one of Vietnam’s key export commodities, maintaining steady recovery despite global market fluctuations.

Key Export Products and Markets

During the first four months of 2022, Vietnam’s rubber exports mainly consisted of:

  • Natural and synthetic rubber blends

  • SVR3L, SVR10, Latex, RSS3, and SVRCV60

Among these, natural and synthetic rubber blends were the most significant, accounting for 60% of total exports, with 291,000 tons worth USD 508 million, up 2.3% in volume and 10.6% in value year-on-year.

China remained the dominant export destination, importing 209,000 tons of natural and synthetic rubber blends worth USD 506 million, representing 99.7% of Vietnam’s total exports of this product group — up 13.6% in volume and 23% in value compared to the same period in 2021.

Prices and Product Structure

Overall, during the first four months of 2022, most rubber product categories recorded increases in both export quantity and value year-on-year.
Notable products included synthetic rubber, rubber blends, SVR20, Skim block, SVR10, and RSS3. Although these categories make up a smaller share of total exports, their growth indicates diversifying demand and improving export structure.

The average export prices of several major categories also rose compared to 2021, particularly for SVR10, synthetic rubber, SVR20, and SVR5, signaling healthy market conditions and a stable price trend for Vietnamese rubber exports.
