
According to data from Vietnam Customs, the total export value of wood and wood products reached USD 2.45 billionin the first two months of 2025, marking a 9.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Specifically, wood product exports totaled USD 1.65 billion, up 9.1% year-on-year.
Strong Growth Across Major Export Markets

Vietnam’s wood industry experienced favorable conditions in early 2025, with export turnover to key markets showing positive growth.

United States: USD 1.3 billion, up 9.5%, accounting for 53.1% of total export value – maintaining its position as Vietnam’s largest wood and wood product importer.

Japan: USD 323.4 million, up 21%, representing 13.2% of exports.

China: USD 259.9 million, down 15.2%, accounting for 10.6%.

South Korea: USD 119.5 million, up 6.3%, making up 4.9%.

Canada: USD 43.7 million, up 21.6%, accounting for 1.8%.
Positive Outlook for 2025, But Challenges Remain
According to the Department of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), the outlook for Vietnam’s wood and wood product exports in 2025 remains positive. However, achieving the target of USD 18 billion in export value will depend on several factors, including:

The global economic recovery and consumer demand in major markets;

Trade policies and import tariff changes;

The competitiveness and internal strength of Vietnamese enterprises.
Currently, the Vietnamese wood industry still faces challenges regarding internal capacity and global competitiveness. In addition, importing countries’ tax policies and stricter origin requirements will require Vietnamese exporters to adapt quickly.
Opportunities from EVFTA and China’s Urban Growth
The EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) continues to provide tariff advantages and expanded opportunities for processed wood products in the EU market. Meanwhile, China’s rising urbanization and construction growthdrive strong demand for wood imports, though exporters must meet stricter regulations on legal timber sources.
Innovation and Digitalization for Sustainable Growth
Amid changing global market dynamics, the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (VIFOREST)recommends that wood processing and exporting enterprises innovate their production and business models to stay competitive.
