
Vietnam’s wooden furniture exports experienced remarkable growth in 2021, reaffirming the country’s position as a leading global supplier of wooden products — especially rubber wood furniture.
Export Value Reached USD 14.8 Billion in 2021
According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, wood and wood product exports reached an estimated USD 14.8 billion in 2021, a 19.7% increase compared to 2020 — maintaining the top position among Vietnam’s agricultural export sectors.
Within this total, rubber wood and rubber wood products accounted for over USD 2.5 billion, representing 17.1% of the total export value, up 6.9% year-on-year.

Rubber wood materials: USD 445.2 million, up 2.3%, accounting for 17.6% of total rubber wood exports.

Rubber wood products: USD 2.1 billion, up 8%, making up 82.4% of the total export value.
The United States, South Korea, Japan, Canada, and China remained Vietnam’s five largest export markets, with a combined value of approximately USD 2.3 billion, representing 90.8% of total exports of rubber wood and related products.
The United States continued to be the dominant market, with an estimated export value of USD 1.7 billion — or 66.3%of total shipments — primarily importing rubber wood furniture (USD 1.6 billion), while raw materials accounted for only a small portion.
Other major markets such as Belgium, Japan, and Canada recorded strong growth, while South Korea, Vietnam’s second-largest export destination for rubber wood products, saw a 7.2% decline compared to 2020.
First Half of 2022: Continued Momentum Amid Challenges
Despite global market fluctuations and rising costs, Vietnam’s wood and wood product exports in the first half of 2022still maintained positive growth, reaching approximately USD 8.4 billion, up 1.7% year-on-year.
Exports of rubber wood and rubber wood products were estimated at USD 1.6 billion, up 5%, contributing 19.1% to total wood export turnover.

Rubber wood materials: USD 292.8 million, up 24.6%, accounting for 18.3% of total exports.

Rubber wood products: USD 1.3 billion, up 1.5%, representing 81.7% of total exports.
The top five export markets — the United States, South Korea, Japan, Canada, and Belgium — together accounted for nearly USD 1.5 billion, or 92% of total rubber wood export value.
The United States remained the largest importer, with nearly USD 1.1 billion in export value, representing 67.8% of total shipments. Among these, finished rubber wood furniture made up 97.8%, while raw wood materials represented only a small share.
