VRG Conducts Second Greenhouse Gas Inventory Training: Advancing Toward Sustainable Development Goals

On May 21, 2025, the Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) organized the second training course on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory for staff members of its subsidiaries. This activity forms part of the Group’s roadmap to implement its sustainable development strategy, aiming toward Net Zero emissions and green growth in the coming years.

From Strategy to Action

In his opening remarks, Mr. Tran Thanh Phung – Deputy General Director of VRG – emphasized that since 2018, VRG has identified sustainable development as its long-term strategic direction. The Group not only focuses on business efficiency but also attaches great importance to environmental and social responsibility.

A clear testament to this commitment is the fact that many member companies have obtained sustainable forest management certifications (PEFC/VFCS), implemented emission-reduction solutions such as replacing fossil fuels with biomass energy and installing rooftop solar power systems, while also participating in ESG assessment programs. These initiatives reinforce VRG’s image as a green and responsible enterprise.

Enhancing Capacity Through Practical Training

The GHG inventory process helps VRG units identify emission sources, formulate appropriate mitigation measures, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency. It is also a crucial preparation step to comply with upcoming legal requirements, participate in the carbon market, and strengthen international competitiveness.

The second training course was conducted in collaboration with Intertek Vietnam, featuring experienced experts Mr. Dang Thanh Long and Mr. Ly Duc Tai as lead instructors. The course consisted of two key modules:

  1. Theory and Awareness – covering GHG concepts, international inventory standards, and methodologies.

  2. Practical Application – including calculation exercises and case studies adapted to the operational reality of each subsidiary.

Notably, the course saw the participation of company leaders, environmental and technical officers, and additional staff who joined online, demonstrating a serious and proactive learning spirit across the entire Group.

Building a Group-wide GHG Inventory and Reporting System

After the training, all VRG subsidiaries will implement on-site GHG inventories, gradually developing a comprehensive emission data and reporting system under the Group’s unified guidelines.

This initiative lays the foundation for VRG to:

  • Participate effectively in the domestic and international carbon markets;

  • Strengthen its position as a sustainable enterprise;

  • Comply with ESG, EPR, and legal environmental standards;

  • Contribute meaningfully to Vietnam’s climate-change mitigation efforts.

The GHG inventory training is therefore not only a technical capacity-building activity but also a strong expression of VRG’s commitment to green transition and sustainable growth.

As environmental compliance becomes an essential criterion for global trade and investment, VRG’s proactive approach to GHG accounting and emission reduction is a strategic step toward enhancing its brand reputation, corporate value, and long-term sustainability.
